422日是地球日,相信大家都已經或多或少聽到一些關於環保的議題,雖然個人力量有限,但是還是可以積沙成塔,以下參考Big Green Purse作者 Diane MacEachern的觀點。

 

1)  Don't drive like a teenager

開車時維持穩定的行進速度,避免急踩油門或緊急煞車,可以減低油耗量。

 

2)  Don't use cleansers and personal care products that contain triclosan or other antibacterial agents.

少用含有殺菌劑的產品,避免產生細菌抗藥性的問題。

 

3)  Don't go shopping without a list!

這一點最實在了!不要盲目購物,只買你需要的! According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, people waste about 30% of their household food budgets buying groceries that eventually expire and have to be thrown out. 這一點我相信,有時候在超市看到有些顧客推了滿滿一整車的商品時都會覺得這到底要吃多久才吃得完。

 

4)  Don't leave the lights on when you leave the room.

隨手關燈。

 

5)  Don't leave the computer on if you're going to be gone longer than two hours. Don't leave the monitor on if you're going to be gone longer than 20 minutes.

電腦長時間不使用可以進入休眠模式或關機。

 

6)  Don't leave the water running when you brush your teeth.

刷牙時不要讓水龍頭的水流個不停。

 

7)  Don't buy "snack packs" that come wrapped in cardboard and plastic.

避免購買小包裝或個別包裝的產品,這些包裝的材質對環境是一項很大的負擔。

 

8) Don't use so much shampoo, soap, lotion, make-up, gel and perfume.

簡化個人清潔用品的使用。More than 25% of all women and one of every hundred men use at least 15 products daily.

 

9)  Don't buy anything new. Remember the 3 R's of eco-friendly living? They begin with "reduce" (the other two are "re-use" and "recycle").

不要因為地球日而購買任何新的物品,雖然很多商業廣告可能趁這個時候宣傳環保商品,但如果你不需要這項商品,那就不需要購買。

 

10) Don't sit at your computer all day.

恩,鼓勵大家多多接觸大自然。

 

 

雖然我自己能做的頂多也只能從減少/重複使用塑膠袋、購物自備環保袋、避免使用免洗餐具跟自己帶便當做起,但是最重要的是這些都要落實在日常生活中,

Make every day Earth Day.

 

畢竟,在地球日當天做些甚麼的確是可以讓大家感覺更美好,但是如果不能在日常生活中落實,對地球的實質幫助是不大的。
